Volunteering

The Weston Centre is run entirely by volunteers.  We are very dependent on the time, and skills, given by many people, in several different roles.  These range from making cups of coffee to involvement in the overall running of the Centre and serving as Trustees.

We have successfully served the residents of Duffield for 24 years now.  But we would like more people to use our facilities, and also to provide additional activities beyond the coffee mornings and lunches.  So we are in need of more volunteers, both for running our existing programme but also to enable us to expand.

Coffee mornings

This involves making and serving hot drinks, and helping people to feel welcome.  You would need to be onsite between 9.45 and 12.15.  There are usually two volunteers each morning.  Most volunteers do the same day each week, or alternate weeks, but occasional volunteers, as a standby if a regular is not available, are also needed.  We can generally adjust to fit in with your availability.

Lunches

Our Monday lunches are well established, and we have a group who help with the preparation of the meals during the morning and then serving at lunchtime and clearing up afterwards.  But additional helpers would be welcome.

These lunches are fully booked and there are more people whom we do not have room for.  We ran additional lunches on Wednesdays for a while, and are keen to reinstate these.  If you may be able to take on the running of lunches on Wednesdays, including shopping and cooking, we would be particularly keen to hear from you.

Secretary

For several years we were fortunate to benefit from the services of a volunteer Secretary, who looked after the day to day running of the Centre and all the administration.  But she moved from Duffield in 2013, leaving a significant gap which we need to fill.  So, we are now looking for a Secretary, who can deal with the general administration of the organisation, including Trustees meetings, taking minutes, and dealing with general enquiries and correspondence.

Hall manager

We also need a Hall Manager (Caretaker), to deal with day to day maintenance issues, including organising and supervising any work which needs to be done.  This could be the same person as the Secretary, as was the case previously, or someone separate.

Social activities

We want to expand the activities we provide, so please contact us if you think you could help with organising occasional afternoon events.

What to do now

If would like to help us, please contact Richard, our Chairman, tel 01773 550454 or 07859 235081, or email, for more information on what is involved.

Remember that there is a wide variety of opportunities available and there is flexibility enabling you to choose how much you take on from occasional help to a more major involvement.
